Hi
I am writing from USA and see a lot of questions about the Duke of Eden..... and always the kids doing it apparently get no briefing about what to expect. I don't know how that can be, but such appears to be the case.
As an American I have some questions about it.
1. May one make fire along the way?
2. May one bring a knife? (I know how paranoid Brits are about weapons...)
3. Askers often inquire about what to bring. Why no briefing beforehand?
4. Are there bathroom facilities along the way or does one have to go behind a bush?
5. How long does it take? Is this a full on backpacking thing, tent and all or just a day hike?
6. Are there overseers, like teachers or something? Or are the kids on their own?

Please enlighten this American. Thanks.

Firstly, i doubt it is called Duke of Eden, more like Duke of Edinburgh.

Yes you can make fire.

Yes you can bring a pocket knife.

There are given a list of equiptment 3 weeks or so before the expedition.

Along the way, however at the camp there are toilets.

15-20 miles of walking, carrying tent, food, equipment clothes etc the whole day.

There are teachers with everyone.

Hope you're 'enlightened'. Amazed you wouldn't have worked it out by now.

I think you mean the Duke of Edinburgh's Award Scheme, and suggest you start your research by looking here: http://www.dofe.org/

Hope that helps.
