I would like to know everyone opinion on what is the best type of tent. I personally think that North Face--Summit Series tent seem to be the best tents. Apparently they have -60 F crack proof windows and are meant for harsh, cold, weather.

Does anyone out there think there is anything better than the summit series?

Thanks a bunch!!

The best camping tents are ones that are easy to set up. Are roomy enough for you, your friends and the gear. Keep you warm and dry in all kinds of weather, and don't cost an arm and a leg. Functionality for purpose is also very important. For example I endorse Coleman tents for family camping and most backpacking use where as for trekking long treks and summiting I would want a much lighter tent along the lines and style of your choice. Only one brand guarantees that you will have a dry tent inside and that is Coleman if your into summiting only then the north face will suit you fine but if you want a roomy tent then go with Coleman.

With every day pass, our country is getting into more and more trouble. The inflation, unemployment and falling value of dollar are the main concern for our Government but authorities are just sleeping, they don’t want to face the fact. Media is also involve in it, they are force to stop showing the real economic situation to the people. I start getting more concern about my future as well as my family after watching the response of our Government for the people that affected by hurricane Katrina.

According to recent studies made by World Bank, the coming crisis will be far worse than initially predicted. So if you're already preparing for the crisis (or haven't started yet) make sure you watch this video at http://www.familysurvival.tv and discover the 4 BIG issues you'll have to deal with when the crisis hits, and how to solve them fast (before the disaster strikes your town!) without spending $1,000s on overrated items and useless survival books.

Well that would depend on what you are using it for...

For the casual camper/car camper: a cheap Walmart/outdoors brand such as Coleman, Kelty, etc.

For a hiker or backpacker: North Face, Marmot, MSR, and Big Agnes (and others) all make great lightweight tents for reasonable prices with good features and quality

For intense winter camping or mountaineering: Nemo and Mountain Hardwear make high quality, reliable, and lightweight tents for extreme conditions. Personally, I believe that these two brands far surpass The North Face in this area. They tend to be much lighter and have better mountaineering features.

Of course, the best thing to do is look through as many tents and brands as you can find and match up the features, weight, and price to what suits your needs. This will be different very each person and will often vary from trip to trip and year to year.

A good Canvas tent will last forever with a little care. You can put a wood stove in it for heat. You can have as much ventilation as you need. But not good if you are back packing....too heavy!
