I have not had enough time to make eagle in my boy scout troop. I am only 1st class and 16 years old, i have many merit badges and requirements taken care of. Since i have not had a board of review because my troop is always "busy" with other kids I cannot make eagle now.. my eighteenth birthday is in 15 months while the requirements call for me to be active in the troop for 16, how can i get around this? after all it was never my fault -___-

Not knowing the truthful details as there are always two sides to every story, there are always exceptions to every rule. Close is close enough keep at it and appeal to you troop board if not successful with them go above their heads to the council level for action.

Life is a lot longer than Boy Scouts. You will encounter requirements that must be attained throughout life. Many will be difficult to attain. Discuss the issues with your local Scoutmaster. If you complete all of the merit badge requirements in a timely manner, then you may need to appeal your case for a higher Council review. However, you should not have the attitude that anyone has a right to the Eagle designation. It is an earned privilege. I was passed-over on first review despite being three officers with our local because, according to a board member who wanted his son to be first to Eagle, I was too independent and did not do enough camping activities with the Troop. I did more camping and competitions with the Troop, the board member's son never fulfilled requirements beyond Heart, and I passed the next Board of Review and added Silver and Gold Palm. However, Eagle designation has never had much effect on my subsequent achievements and failures in life. Life struggles are met from within, not from accolades given or denied by others.

You did not state how long it took to get from Scout to 1st Class. If you were right on track with your requirements and you can show your Scoutmaster you have been ready for your next BOR, it would be in his interest to give you the month. If however, you did not get interested in making Eagle until you turned 16, then you woke up a little late. If you are serious, I would still have a meeting with the Scoutmaster and your parents to openly discuss what you can do. Get a plan and hold up your end of the plan so everyone knows how serious you are about getting your Eagle. I used to help the Life Scouts in our troop get their project plan written so it would meet the district requirements. None of the boys even had a clue as to what was expected in the plan when they started. Not all of them completed their plans and went on to complete their project. They were closer than you are now and still quit. So you still have challenges yet to over come. Best of luck to you.

Look at it this way...you still have 15 months and can accomplish a lot of great things in that remaining amount of time. Scouting is about more than just the badges...it's about DOING YOUR BEST. Don't throw in the towel just yet. Work hard and demonstrate to the leadership how much Scouting means to you. As has been mentioned, you can appeal.

I had a bit of a lull in the middle of working my way to Eagle but got all my merit badges and completed my project just in the nick of time. I actually had my board of review after my 18th birthday. Don't wait. Push ahead. It's one of the achievements that you'll look back on with pride for the rest of your life.

Good luck to you!

I`m sure if you are actually active in the troop 1 month isnt going to stop you from making eagle. I`d keep pushing make star as soon as possible so you can knock off that 6 month waiting period then do the same for life. Make sure all your merit badges are in order.

Also, dont forget that your Eagle Project has to be completed before your 18th birthday, but your Eagle Board of Review can take place after your 18th birthday

You can't get around the time requirements. Eagle rank has to be approved by the local council and the BSA at the national level. Learn what you can, enjoy being in Scouts, advance as far as you're able, and be proud of what you do achieve.
